Vials on Vials

Hi there,

It has been 1 long minute since I have been on here. I have been making art and working. Social media is not my jam, and I do not enjoy being near my electronic devices (my Fujifilm is the only exception)…but I want to share this installation with you because I hope it inspires you to explore your creativity.

Recently, I finished my art installation, located at Drawing Room on 780 Valencia Street, SF - up until April 6th, 2023.

For those who cannot attend the installation, don’t like leaving their home, live far away, or like to be creepers, I will best describe it here.

First, I want to say: This is part of an ongoing series that I am doing. This installation is one of the many forms it will be. Thank you, friend, artist, and colleague Brittany North for this epiphany of work that came to fruition by taking your class and listening to your knowledge. For classes with Brittany North click here.

Encapsulating a Paradox is an immersive installation created by me, Monet. I had been collecting trash that causes pollutants in the air from various places such as Ocean Beach, my house, and re-used materials at select spaces. I stuffed 200 vials/science tubes with all this trash/stuff, painted the corks gold, and have them suspended from the ceiling at various lengths. Well, I have them suspended from a mesh grid I created between rafters because a ceiling does not exist in the space.

I then created a short video with photographs I have taken of the sky when it’s most colorful. When the sky is colorful it is because there are many pollutants in the sky. Yea, that prettiness we see is sometimes harmful particles affecting the ozone layer. I created some music to ground the photographs and the hanging vials.

The space is for people to walk through. The idea is for you to feel immersed by the colors and vials in this small space. They represent pollutants in the air.

When people walked by them I heard “that is so pretty/beautiful.” As I cannot control nor want to control one’s subjective experience of art, I am happy to hear that people can see “beauty” in something that really
is not made of “pretty” things.

I am encapsulating human necessity or human joy/ pleasures in a tiny vial. Yet, the things in this vial are affecting the ozone layer, one of the most important things for human need/living…..is to breathe and not to burn by the blazing sun. This is where the paradox comes in. You can read a bit more Here.

I won’t go into more detail, I am better at explaining this in person or answering questions. Feel free to start a conversation :)

Encapsulating a Paradox, Video and Music projected in the space.

I created this video that is projected in the space. I focused on the color and natural saturation of the image of what I photographed. If you are curious about the story behind the photos, comment below.

Can you guess which one is “the day the sky went orange?” ;)

An Abyss of Ancient Tradition Liquified Beans

If you don’t know me then here’s a fun fact: I love black coffee. I don’t remember the first time I learned about coffee because it’s been in my culture forever, but I do remember the first time I brewed the delicious black liquid in one of the oldest ways known, Soorj (Armenian coffee) - thank you Simon’s mother for teaching me!

The name Soorj comes from action of slurping, like when we slurp drinks/coffee! Soorj is served in a tiny cup; it’s dense, thick, and you don’t want to drink the very bottom of the cup because it leaves a sedament of grounds at the bottom. Sometimes you can have your fortune read out of the cup once you’re done drinking it.

I’m not going to expain the process here, I’m just sharing my cup of coffee with you that I literally brewed today and needed to take a photo because, well, the sun came out today! haha.

If you are sipping on a cup of black (or milky) liquid annihliation now, cheers.

As you get to know me on here, I am not posting things for endorsement; I am just sharing with you what I enjoy (:

I’m curious…What’s your favorite way to drink coffee? Share below!
& If you’re curious about making soorj feel free to ask me.

Like Love, A boog of nonsense that makes sense?

Hi there,

For the love of art, knowledge, philosophy, how EYE perceive beauty, and the simple things in life, being an artist, educator, and a licensed beauty enthusiast, this is my visual journal. This is a space where I can share my love of things with you! This space is mine and yours. Please feel free to ask any questions that your mind wonders about. I hope you enjoy & have a lovely day!

Olga Razanova, Cover from Zaumnaia gniga, Collage, circa 1915

Since I’m submitting my first post on Valentine’s Day, I thought I post one of my favorite artworks from Russian Avant Garde artist, Olga Razanova. While her work has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day, this collage she created was on the cover of an illustrated book that is from an anti-art movement. While this book is just nonsense to a reader it speaks to a visual.

Sometimes we can’t explain things from art to love, am I right?

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

For any future posts, all images are mine unless stated otherwise. If you would like more information on an image please refer to the end of the post with links and information.
